The Delicacies of Nice

Nice has a wealth of excellent artisans, hand making local delicacies.

During your stay you can live like a local and enjoy their delicious products.

We have hand picked some local artisanal companies who reflect our feelings about Nice, our values and that we would like to introduce to our guests. Most are family run businesses who have a long history in Nice or the surrounding area. Their human approach and hard work has made them a successful niçoise experience.

La Socca

A local “incontournable” (unmissable!) delicacy is Socca.

A kind of flatbread, made from chickpea flour and olive oil, Socca is a delicious local dish which must be tasted during your stay in Nice! Typically served with drinks as a pre -dinner snack, it’s also good at any time of day.

Serving some of the best Socca in Nice, is “Chez Pipo”. In a friendly, niçoise atmosphere, you will be welcomed by Steve, the owner, who runs this traditional family business. Chez Pipo is a favourite with the locals as well as visitors and Steve’s restaurant is always busy, so arrive early to ensure you can get a table!

You’ll find Chez Pipo at 13 rue Bavastro and at Nice airport.

Pan Bagnat

If you’re going for a picnic or a day on the beach, why not take along a “Pan Bagnat” (pronounced [pɑ̃ baˈɲa]) from the local boulangerie. A favourite niçois lunchtime sandwich, it comprises a traditional salad niçoise encased in a small pain de campagne. As with so many local recipes around the world, everyone’s maman has a slightly different recipe! We really like this one.

Wine, Épicerie, Craft Beer - the perfect “Apéro”

Each evening in homes, and in bars and cafés across Nice, the niçois enjoy an “apéro” with friends and family. Apéro is a small, relaxing pause at the end of the day, but before dinner, to enjoy a glass or two of Côte de Provence rosé and some snacks and nibbles. There are a whole host of shops where you can buy local wine, delicatessen products and craft beer to enjoy an apéro in your apartment or villa.

Apéritiv is an artisan épicerie and vintner. Loved by the locals, they have a great selection of wine, apértifs and delicatessen products in their two boutiques in Nice.

If you prefer a cold glass of beer, then head to Allez Hops, where you’ll find a great selection of craft beer, English speaking staff and can try before you buy!
